The Metabolomics and Human Health GRC is a premier, international scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research, prioritizing time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages. The conference program includes an array of speakers and discussion leaders from institutions and organizations worldwide, concentrating on the latest developments in the field. The conference is five days long and held in a remote location to increase the sense of camaraderie and create scientific communities, with lasting collaborations and friendships. In addition to premier talks, the conference has designated time for poster sessions from individuals of all career stages, and afternoon free time and communal meals allow for informal networking opportunities with leaders in the field.
Metabolomics, the comprehensive study of small molecules present in cells, tissues, and biological fluids, provides a powerful approach to understanding how genetic, environmental, microbial, and lifestyle factors influence human physiology and disease. Since metabolites represent the downstream products of biological activity, the metabolome offers an integrative readout of the biological state of the individual which connects molecular mechanisms with environmental exposures and health outcomes. The 2027 Metabolomics and Human Health GRC will highlight emerging directions in metabolomics research within the broader context of the exposome, One Health, and lifecourse biology. One Health is an approach that recognizes that human health is closely connected to the health of animals, plants, and the surrounding environment. By adopting collaborative, multisectoral, and transdisciplinary strategies, the One Health framework emphasizes the interconnected relationships between environmental systems, biological processes, and human health. It also recognizes that many pharmaceuticals and therapeutic compounds originate from natural environments and nutritional sources. Within this conference, we highlight research that integrates One Health perspectives with metabolomics to better understand the complex interactions among environmental exposures, microbiome activity, nutrition, and host metabolism. Sessions will showcase advances in analytical technologies, computational and systems biology approaches, and innovative applications of metabolomics in areas such as chronic disease, developmental origins of health and disease, microbiome–metabolome interactions, nutrition and metabolism across the lifespan, and the development and monitoring of clinical interventions. Consistent with the Gordon Research Conference format, the meeting emphasizes the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research while prioritizing extended discussion and informal scientific exchange. The five-day residential conference brings together investigators from academia, industry, and government agencies in a setting designed to foster open dialogue, mentorship, and collaboration across career stages. Poster sessions provide opportunities for trainees and investigators at all levels to present their work, while shared meals and scheduled free time facilitate informal networking and scientific interaction among participants.
